Hesar in Hesar

The Hessar civilization is one of the oldest civilizations of the Iranian plateau, which is located about one kilometer southeast of Damghan city, in Semnan province. The ancient site of Hessar has three main cultural periods, each of which is divided into shorter periods (layers). The pottery discovered from this ancient civilization is among the best handicrafts of the early inhabitants of the Iranian plateau. The makers of these pottery, sometimes close to reality and sometimes far from it, have drawn calculated motifs on the dishes, which shows their intellectual maturity and the way they look at their surroundings. The first period of Hessar civilization dates back to the fifth millennium BC and lasted until about 3600 BC. This course is divided into three layers. This period is famous for its engraved pottery. The pottery of this period was first made by hand and then by wheel. Therefore, we are witnessing the evolutionary growth of pottery art. This period is witness to the variety of motifs used to decorate its pottery. The second period, which includes from about 3600 to 2400 BC, the presence of patterned pottery and gray pottery is important. Among the patterned pottery, the role of stylized animals along with geometric motifs stand out. Of course, gray pottery is often decorated with a pattern. The third period of Hessar, which is known by the disappearance of the tradition of engraved pottery and the prevalence of gray pottery, was formed between 2400 and 1600 BC and consists of three layers. The pottery of this period is the continuation of the gray pottery of the previous periods. The present book intends to look closely at the periods and layers of Hessar civilization, separate and introduce the dishes and motifs used in each period, the method of burial, and the beliefs and beliefs of the prehistoric people in this region.

This book is a Persian translation of a significant work by the renowned British translation scholar, Margaret Rogers. It marks a pivotal contribution to the field of Translation Studies in Iran by challenging a long-standing paradigm within the discipline.
For decades, Translation Studies has predominantly prioritized "literary translation," often relegating other forms, such as the translation of scientific and specialized texts (categorized as "non-literary"), to the margins. This book breaks new ground by moving beyond this entrenched dichotomy. Instead of merely contrasting literary and specialized translation, it delves into their often-overlooked parallels and subtle similarities.
The core of the book is dedicated to illuminating the intricacies, complexities, and unique challenges inherent in specialized translation. By exploring the hidden connections between these two domains, the text reveals the sophistication and depth required for translating technical and scientific material.
Published by Damghan University Press, this translation aims to address a significant gap in the Iranian academic landscape for rigorous resources on this subject. It is an invaluable resource for students, scholars, and practitioners of translation, as well as researchers in terminology studies, offering profound theoretical and practical insights into a vital yet underappreciated area of the field.

Soil Mechanics Through Project-Based Learning

This book employs a more engaging project-based approach to learning, which partially simulates what practitioners do in real life. The project-based method, which has proven to be a valid alternative to the traditional one, not only provides students with opportunities to better understand the fundamentals of soil mechanics, but also allows them to gain experience that is more practical and learn how to apply theory to practice. Our teaching experience indicates that working on a practical project makes the learning process more relevant and engaging. This book will appeal to the new generations of students who would like to have a better idea of what to expect in their employment future. In this book, readers are presented with a real-world challenge (in the form of a project-based assignment) similar to that which they would encounter in engineering practice and they need to work-out solutions using the relevant theoretical concepts that are briefly summarized in the book chapters. To complete this project-based assignment, readers are required to undertake a series of major geotechnical tasks including: a) interpretation of field and laboratory data, b) analysis of soil conditions, c) identification of geotechnical problems at a construction site and d) assessment of their effect on construction.
This book covers all significant topics in soil mechanics and slope stability analysis. Each section is followed by several review questions that will reinforce the reader’s knowledge and make the learning process more engaging. A few typical problems are discussed at the end of chapters to help the reader develop problem-solving skills. Once the reader has sufficient knowledge of soil properties and mechanics, they will be able to undertake a project-based assignment to scaffold their learning. The assignment is based on real field and laboratory data including boreholes and test results so that the reader can experience what geotechnical engineering practice is like, identify with it personally and integrate it into their own knowledge base. In addition, some problems will include open-ended questions, which will encourage the reader to exercise their judgment and develop practical skills. To foster the learning process, solutions to all questions will be provided and discussed.

An introduction to cultural urbanology

This book offers a foundational exploration of Cultural Urbanism, examining the profound and dynamic relationship between human culture and the formation of our built environments. It posits that places on Earth are not static backdrops but are continuously shaped and reshaped by cultural forces. The core argument is that culture is the common denominator and identity-giver to place. The book shifts the focus from purely physical structures to the socially constructed meanings, symbols, and values that define urban spaces. It investigates how human agency, collective mindsets, aspirations, and inner conflicts are physically manifested in human landscapes and settlements.Drawing from urban sociology and cultural studies, the book analyzes the processes through which social meanings are produced, distributed, and represented within human habitats. It treats the study of human landscapes as an analysis of human creativity, failures, and all the actions that communities and nations have physically embodied on the Earth throughout history.A central theme is the role of the human mind as the source of creation for place. The book argues that just as an artist arranges elements to express an idea, the collective human mind, with all its contradictions, arranges phenomena on the land to form a cultural landscape. "Foundations of Cultural Urbanism" is thus an effort to trace the impact of these attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors on the formation of human settlements and their tangible impact on the planet, making the influence of living culture on the shape of our habitats vividly apparent.

This book presents the findings of research by leading scholars in gravity and cosmology, including the author, focusing on the critical role of matter-geometry interactions and their effects on the dynamics of our universe. It is structured to be accessible to readers with a foundational background in gravity and cosmology, making it a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers interested in this advanced topic.
The book is systematically organized into four comprehensive parts, each exploring a distinct class of theoretical models:

Part 1 examines foundational, historically significant theories of matter-geometry interaction, such as Rastall theory and Einstein's Dark Energy model.
Part 2 delves into non-minimal matter-geometry couplings, covering influential theories like f(R,Lm)f(R,Lm) and f(R,T)f(R,T) gravity, which have been actively developed over the past 15 years.
Part 3 investigates theories with non-standard matter couplings, where the matter sector differs from the conventional baryonic Lagrangian and typically couples to geometry in a non-minimal way, as seen in models like Energy-Momentum Squared Gravity and Energy-Momentum Powered Gravity.
Part 4 explores the most advanced class: derivative interactions between matter and geometry. These theories incorporate non-standard matter terms that are non-minimally coupled, with the key distinction that derivatives of the matter Lagrangian or the energy-momentum tensor are also considered.

Language policy

One of the most interdisciplinary and practical branches of linguistics is the field of language planning, which fortunately has received special attention among linguists in Iran in recent years. A historical study of the formation of any academic field shows that this process involves going through many ups and downs, and the field of language planning studies—both from a theoretical perspective and a practical dimension—has not been and is not exempt from this in Iran and other countries. What has received the most attention today in Iran regarding the Persian language, among the various aspects of language planning, is the domain of lexical selection. Although it cannot be said that other domains of the Persian language have been deprived of language planning thought and action, a study of the hundred-year history of Persian language planning shows that the aforementioned domain has received greater attention. One way to balance adequate attention to all language domains from a holistic perspective is through comprehensive familiarity with the field of language planning and policy studies and recognizing it as one of the main and practical topics of linguistics—something that cannot be achieved except through enriching the literature related to this field of study. Perhaps the number of books published in the field of language planning and policy does not even reach the number of fingers on one hand, and for these reasons, the publication of the present book heralds the beginning of a new chapter in Persian language planning and policy. The book Language Policy by Bernard Spolsky, published in 2004, is a distinguished work among the works in the field of language planning studies. This book, in thirteen chapters, examines different aspects of language planning and policy with a typological approach while referring to real evidence from the world's languages.
