Abstract

This book is a Persian translation of a critical work by Karen le Roux that addresses a significant gap in the education of news translators. It moves beyond the conventional teaching of translation strategies to examine the real-world constraints and ethical dilemmas faced by professionals in the field.
The book presents a rigorous analysis of the two predominant approaches in news translation: domestication (making the text familiar for the target reader) and foreignization (preserving the foreignness of the source text). Using concrete examples from major international news agencies like Reuters, AFP, and the Associated Press, the author argues compellingly that foreignization is often the more faithful and effective strategy. It can provide a more accurate understanding of the original text while still being accessible, challenging the uncritical preference for domestication prevalent in many academic programs.
The translation of this book itself serves as a practical demonstration of this foreignizing approach. It is an essential resource for translation students, educators, and practitioners, offering a realistic perspective on the profession by incorporating critical factors such as:
