Abstract

This book is a Persian translation of a seminal work that addresses one of humanity''s oldest fascinations: the ability of an organism to suspend and later restore its biological processes, a phenomenon that touches upon profound questions of life, death, and survival.
Filling a significant gap in Persian scientific literature, this volume provides a comprehensive and systematic exploration of the role of dormancy and suspended animation in enabling organisms to withstand extreme environmental stress. A standout feature of the book is its broad, comparative approach, examining survival mechanisms across the spectrum of life—from cyanobacteria and plants to higher animals.
It delves into the fundamental biological principles that allow these diverse organisms to enter states of metabolic arrest and subsequently revive, exploring the innate "art of survival" encoded within them. By understanding these universal, life-sustaining forces, the book suggests we can gain deeper insights into resilience in the face of a changing and unstable world.
Translated to serve researchers, students, and general science enthusiasts, this book connects a captivating scientific wonder with a systematic explanation of the principles that make it possible.
