Abstract
The main objective of presenting this glossary is to provide an up-to-date reference in the field of civil engineering and construction. This collection attempts to address the needs of the academic and industrial communities involved in civil engineering projects by providing useful information on technical terminology for those interested in construction and architecture. This dictionary can serve as a useful handbook that can be easily and quickly used to review unfamiliar terms by builders, suppliers of civil industries, and contractors.
Given the magnitude and nature of the construction industry, it is difficult even for specialists and academics to stay informed of current issues and retain construction terminology in their minds. In such cases, this book serves as a reminder and gives the reader confidence in the accuracy of the terms. Various specialists in the construction field can benefit sufficiently from this collection.
This glossary has been compiled considering the needs of students requiring research at all levels of university education, and it covers diverse disciplines of civil engineering such as structural engineering, earthquake engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation, traffic engineering, hydraulic structures, and marine structures. Therefore, an effort has been made to compile important and frequently used words in the mentioned disciplines by gathering them from credible references and articles. In this collection, two types of translation from English to Persian and from Persian to English have been included to be useful for those who are taking steps toward translating their research and presenting it in international journals and conferences. In total, an effort has been made to include approximately 8,000 English-to-Persian words and an equivalent number from Persian-to-English in this collection.
